IDCによる世界のAR/VRヘッドセット市場の出荷実績（2016年）と予測（2021年）
9月1日から6日までの6日間、ドイツ・ベルリンのメッセベルリンで開催された世界最大級のコンシューマエレクトロニクスの見本市「IFA 2017」では、マイクロソフトが提唱する新しい仮想空間を表す「Mixed Reality（MR）」に注目が集まった。これまでのVRとARの世界を包括する概念で、ゴーグルの外側にもカメラを取りつけることで周囲の映像も取り込み、CGと実際の映像を継ぎ目なく合成、新たなリアリティのある体験を提供できる
マイクロソフトは「IFA 2017」のキーノートスピーチで、MRゴーグルに対応する「Windows 10 Fall Creators Update」を10月17日に公開すると正式発表。それにあわせて、Lenovo、acer、DELL、ASUS、HPのPCメーカー5社がMRゴーグルを発売すると発表した。価格は349ドル。コントローラのWindows Mixed Reality Motion Controllersとのセットは399ドル。これまでの類似製品より価格は大幅に下がり、一般ユーザーでも購入しやすくなる
IFAの会場には多くのMRゴーグルの体験スペースがあったものの、ゲームコンテンツがほとんど。今後、さらなる広がりが予想されるMRの世界の一端を体験させるにとどまった。
IDCの予測によると、世界のAR/VRゴーグル市場は、2021年までに現在の10倍、1億台まで拡大する見込み。なかでも、エンタープライズ向けの製品が大きく伸びると予測している。
ゴーグルの小型化やコンテンツ制作体制の整備が進み、ゲーム以外のコンテンツも充実していくにつれ、市場規模はさらに拡大し、PC市場の大きな柱として成長する可能性も高い。（BCN チーフエグゼクティブアナリスト 道越一郎）
